Pom poms can be used to decorate utensils, containers, or even hang them from the ceiling like paper lanterns. All you need to make tissue paper pom poms are: tissue paper, wire/string, and scissors. Simply follow the directions below to make your pom pom decoration creations. Have fun!!!

Everyday Items for Your Everyday Cleaning

In leu of wanting to do what I can to be more eco-friendly and wanting use less hazardous materials in my everyday cleaning, I have found some new uses for items that you may already have in your home:

Glycerin: Remove dried wax drippings from candlesticks. Peel off as much wax as you can then moisten a cotton ball with glycerin and rub until clean.
Club Soda: Make that scuffed stainless steel sink shiny again. Use a cloth dampened with club soda, then wipe dry with another clean cloth.
Hydrogen Peroxide: Use it to disinfect a keyboard. Dip a cotton swab in hydrogen peroxide to get into the hard to reach areas.
Cornstarch: Clean grease spills on carpets. Pour some cornstarch onto the spot and let sit for 15-30 minutes before vacuuming.
Rubbing Alcohol: Ease permanent-marker stains from finished wood-floors or solid-surface countertops. Pour rubbing alcohol onto a cotton ball and apply.
White Bread: Dust an oil painting. Gently dab a slice of white bread over the surface to pick up dirt and grime.
Ketchup: Remove tarnish from copper and brass cookware. Apply ketchup onto a cloth and rub it on pots and pans, rinse with warm water and dry with a towel.
Oatmeal: Use as a scrub to clean very dirty hands. Make a thick paste of oatmeal and water; rinse well.
Rice: clean the inside of a vase or thin-necked bottle. Fill three quarters of the vessel with warm water and add one tablespoon of uncooked rice. Cup your hand oer the opening, shake vigorously, and rinse.
Tea: Scour rusty garden tools: Brew a few pots of strong black tea. When cool pour into a bucket. SOak the tools for a few hours. Wipe each one with a cloth (be sure to wear rubber gloves or your hands will be stained).

I hope these useful tips I picked up from a Real Simple magazine are as useful to you as they are for me.

Coffee cozies are a great way to be eco-friendly, reduce trash, save paper and be stylish at the same time. These are a great replacement for the ugly brown paper cardboard coffee holders you get at your local coffee shop.

You can find these cute coffee cozies in my Chic Boutique shop. I do some sewing and I found it hard to throw away the pretty scraps of fabric. Then I decided that I could upcycle them into these stylish coffee cozies. They come in various prints and different shades of colors.

Creative Ways to Display Jewelry at Craft Fairs

With the craft fair season on its way, I have been trying to find new and creative ways to display my jewelry. I want my space at a craft show to stand out amongst the sea of jewelry sellers. I want my displays to be unique. Here are some known and maybe unknown ways to display your jewelry at the craft shows:

Wire jewelry displays - most purchased come in black, but that definitely doesn't mean that they have to be black. Feel free to paint them a color that matches your color scheme.
Peg boards are useful to display bracelets and necklaces. This can also make it easy for you to set up by just doing it the night before.
Message cork boards - you can cove them with fabric and color the frame to match your theme.
Picture frames - use the frame only as a way to display your works of art.
Three tier stands - they have uses other than displaying your delicious food, you can also use them to display items like bracelets. Your customers will have a ball digging through the piles of jewelry.
Chest (jewelry box) - they will feel like they found a treasure in your collection.
Kitchen items - use nicely decorated bowls and plates as ways to display your jewelry.
Radiator cover grills - you can find decorative designs all you have to do is frame it and you have yourself a jewelry display.
Coffee mug holder - use to display necklaces and bracelets.

These are a few ideas I have seen, read about, and use myself. I hope these ideas get your creative juices flowing for your next craft fair. Feel free to leave comments if you have any creative ideas of your own, have used any of these ideas yourself, or simply just say what you feel.

How to Wear a Sarong

During summer we tend to use a sarong as a cover-up, but many choose to wear it as a long skirt. Although that looks nice, there are many other stylish ways to wear a sarong:

Wear it as a short skirt - fold the skirt in half or to the length you prefer and tie it on the side as you would a log skirt.

Wear as a halter top dress - hold the sarong behind you take the two top ends of the sarong and cross the two ends in front of you, twist the crossed ends and tie behind your neck.

Wear it toga style - wrap the sarong around you and bring the ends under your underarm, criss cross the ends , then bring it ends up and over the same shoulder and tie it off with a knot.

Wear it elegantly - wrap the sarong around you towards the back, cross the ends, and bring it up and over your shoulder. Pin the ends i the middle.

These are only a few of the many ways that you can wear a sarong. You can complete your tropical look with an orchid luau hair clip.

How to Care for Your Baubles During the Summer

During the summer, there are days that we go to the beach wearing our finest jewelry to complete that special summer outfit. Unfortunately many people don't really know how to take care of jewelry during the summer. I found these facts and tips from the May 2009 magazine of Women's Health Magazine:

Chlorine and heat can discolor and erode the finish of gold and platinum
Chlorine and salt can change the color of porous gemstones like pearls, opals, and emeralds.
Sand can scratch soft metals like 24-karat gold

If you swim, sweat, or get sunscreen on the gems make sure you rinse them with warm tap water immediately .
When you get home, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush dipped in warm water and a few drops of dish soap.

Frida Challenge - Wooden Necklace

In commemoration of Frida's 102th anniversary Etsy Owls Team and Spanglish Team are participating in a Frida Challenge. There are participants that have created items that were inspired of the Favored Mexican artist and you can see them on etsy.com.

As a fan of her work, I felt that I must participate in this challenge. How could I resist? Finding the right item to portray the artist was the most difficult part of the task. While

brainstorming I came up these ideas: colors that she commonly uses, converting a theme of her art onto a piece of jewelry, include some of her favorite animals, or make a flower piece similar to what she is seem wearing. As you see I had a hard time in choosing what I was going to do. But I had an ah ha moment. I thought what better item to create than the kind of jewelry she was seen wearing? So I said yes, that is what I am going to do. I then created a chunky necklace made of chestnut wooden beads, and small dark brown round beads that looked similar to the kind of jewelry she once wore. You can take a look at it in my shop on etsy and check it out. I think if Frida were alive today, she may have wanted to wear a necklace such as this. Or at least I hope she would :-).

Owls are so cute that is why I included the owl print in my new line of stationary. You can get various versions of Owlie the owl. He is the ultimate owl, he is smart and loves the environment.

This stationary is created on recycled card stock paper. Also, the paper inside is blank repurposed paper that was just going to be thrown away. These mini journals are not only cute, they are also green! These mini journals can be found on my etsy shop. Feel free to take a look. You better hurry though because they are very popular.

These coasters are the one of the newest additions to my shop on etsy. They are a great addition to your dining room or coffee table. They are a great way to add a great splash of color. They come in various combination of colors: warm colors, peacock colors, and natural tones.

These stylish coasters are made from eco spun recycled felt and foam bottoms for sturdiness. The recycled felt is made from recycled plastic bottles. So aside from being tres chic, they are also eco-friendly. And we definitely love green!

When you wear the flower on the right side, it means that you are single or are interested. But when you wear it on the left hand side, it means that you are married or taken. Orchids and plumerias are usually the flower of choice when you attend a Luau, but others can be worn as well. Flower are also worn at parties, weddings, and proms. I like to wear my orchids when I go to the beach so I can get the tropical look. I also like to wear the flower when I go to lunch or when I go out at night. Flowers are a great and feminine which can be worn anytime to dress up any outfit.

Sassy City Chicks

On November 18th I attended a great sample sale held at the beautiful Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica. This event was held by Sassy City Chicks, and I attended both as a vendor and a customer. This event had great sales, great staff, and great people. I hope to be able to attend their next function again, as should you. You will have a lot of fun finding great bargains at the Sassy City Chicks event.
